Bali: Day 8 (31/10/07)

Made's friend sent us to the airport after breakfast at 10.30am. 5 ppl and luggages have filled up the car. There wasn't much photos being taken on this day. So, I will show you some greenfield photos that I had taken.

For ubud hotel, I would highly recommend Greenfield as I had a pleasant stay here. I had stayed in Greenfield bale bunga room for 5 days. The initial room rate is Rp250,000(~RM100) and I got 10% discount from their administrator, Ms Feny. I am not sure if the 10% discount was because I had a long stay. Anyway, you can always write in and ask for the price.

Each morning, I will have to scratch my head and decide on the breakfast. Yes, my 5 days would be enough for me to try almost everything. But then, I will always miss yesterday breakfast that I would love to have it again. They have fried noodles/rice for heavier breakfast, pancake/jaffles/toast bread for light breakfast and you can choose to have fruit juice or fruit salad as a complement. For the good breakfast and free transport services that Greenfield provides within ubud area, It is definitely well worth the rate that you pay.

Bali: Day 7 (30/10/07)

Today schedule is kind of relax and lazy. We stayed in Ubud and didn't do much walking or sight-seeing. We started quite late with Ubud Palace. Ubud Palace offers a glimpse of life as balinese royal.

Babi Guling Ibu Oka

Babi guling is famous local delicacy which should not be missed and this Babi Guling Ibu Oka is located just opposite the Ubud Palace. The little stall serves babi guling(roasted suckling pig) with rice for a very cheap price. All in all, we spent less than Rp20,000(~RM8) per person for lunch.

Verona Spa

Later in the afternoon, I decided to try Verona Spa. Verona Spa is located at Jalan Monkey Forest and it only provide free pick up. So, I need Greenfield to pick me up after the Spa treatment. This time I have selected 3 items to entitle a 10% discount.

My treatments(Rp162,000,~RM65):
1 hour Balinese massage
Pedicure with design
Medicure with design

Again, I was given a paddy view room. I guess other rooms are all occupied. This time it is an open space! Look at the photo below. I tried to hide behind the plants when I took my shower. The feeling was heird.....

Today is the last night to have dinner in Bali. I have made a silly mistake that we almost have missed this famous Nuri's Spare Ribs. In my reference notes, I had jotted down Rp500,000(~RM200) for one set of Nuri's Spare Ribs. We were hesitated because it is quite pricey. But at last, we still decided to go for it as it will be our my last dinner in Bali. Luckily we went. The spare ribs cost less than rp50,000(~rm20).

A regular shipment of fresh tuna will arrive on every thursday. I had missed it as I did not have a thursday in Ubud. You have to come a little bit early as the place is always packed.

Bali: Day 6 (29/10/07)

Waking up is not a issue at all in Bali. Every morning I will wake up naturally before 7am. The feeling of waking up naturally is so great, as your body will slowly adapt from deep sleep to a calm awakening. And, the best way to rest your tired body before sleep is to enjoy a full body massage in your room. Last night, I had a traditional massage in my room and it was really one of the best way to pamper myself.

The day started with a visit to Celuk Village, the center of Gold and Silversmith. I cant even remember the name of the shop because all the gold and silver works are so expensive. They have earings, necklaces, pendants, rings, bracelets and other accessories. I was trying to get myself a pair of silver earings but was told that nothing in the shop is less than Rp125000(~RM50). Emm... I thought silver is very cheap only. So, we made a move to the next destination.

part of the shop

Sukawati Art Market is very close to Celuk Village, selling all sort of handicrafts. I am not a big shopping fan. Furthermore I had been to tegallalang and ubud market. These 3 places are selling the same handicrafts except that tegallalang has more wood crafts. My friend bought a wooden handicraft at morning price(should be cheaper) and the shop owner used the notes to touch his goods. According Balinese, this will bring good luck/business to them.

first deal of the day

What have brought me here is the luxurious civet coffee(kopi luwak by the Indonesian). Civet coffee is made from beans that have passed through a civet cat's digestive tract. The civet will pick the perfect berries and thus producing the highest quality of coffee bean.

The coffee tour includes explanation from the coffee berries on the tree up to packaging the coffee bean and a coffee tasting session. The in house tour guide told us that even you can find their kupu-kupu brand kopi bali in supermaket or airport, but you need to come to the factory to get the export quality coffee. We left the factory with one box of coffee bean and coffee powder. Later, we did buy one packet of the same brand from supermarket for comparison. No way, you better make sure you come to the factory.

Since most of the trip members miss Wong Solo so much, so we had lunch at Wong Solo again. This is the only restaurant that we went twice during our Bali trip. After lunch, we went to Geneva. It is 3-storey shop, first floor is selling furniture, second and third floor are selling handicraft. Second floor and third floor have different owners, but basically the handicrafts sold are not repeatable.

This is really a one stop handicraft centre. If you don't have time for ubud market, tegallalang or sukawati, just come to Geneva. Another great point of Geneva is everything here is fixed price, so it is heaven for those who don't know how to bargain.

Tanah Lot was the last stop. Need no explanation, Tanah Lot is one of the famous spot for visitors. Normally the temple is surrounded by water. You can only get close to the temple when it is low tide. We went in the evening for sunset. But, we didn't manage to see sunset as it was too cloudy.

Dinner was at Ayam Tulang Lunak Malioboro, which is next to Bebek Begil Dirty Duck Diner. As the name implies, the speciality here is their Ayam Tulang Lunak. I have captured the explanation in their menu.

In short, they claim that their chicken bone which is high in calcium and zinc can be consumed. And in fact, I found that it is so crispy that you couldnt tell that you are actually eating a chicken bone.

Bali: Day 5 (28/10/07)

On the 5th day, we went to Bedugul. We didn't manage to cover many places. First, we went to Pura Ulun Danau Bratan, followed by Lake Buyan, Spice Market and Strawberry Stop. Pura Ulun Danau was the highlight. We were a bit disappointed with Lake Buyan and Spice Market. Lake Buyan just look like any other lakes. One even said if you show the photo to others, most likely they can't tell it is Lake Buyan. Spice Market is exactly a mini Cameron, selling vegetables, fruits and spices.

When we came out from Strawberry Stop, it was drizzling. By the time we reached Botanical Garden, it was pouring rain. No place to go. Made sent us back to Greenfield. On the way back, we dropped by an insignificant stall for Bali Guling.

At about 4 something, we came out to Ubud Market. Ubud Market has almost everything for tourist. But, the prices here are marked few times higher. Well, it's a great place to sharpen my bargain skills. I noticed every stalls is selling almost the same goods, making the market very competitive. Thus, they will normally give in if you pretend to leave.

Same as Bebek Bengil, we had to order the Banana Chicken at Satri's Warung one day earlier. Satri's Warung is very close to Ubud Pasar, so we walked there. The signboard at Jalan Monkey Forest lead us to the hidden courtyard. It was a family running business, totally different dining experience compare to the earlier restaurants. I could even heard the kids screaming," ada tetamu"(have visitors) when we walked in.

Total bill was Rp348,700(~Rm140) for the night.
